Management and Marketing uses
Management can benefit greatly from the photo-document both in managing the project and marketing your company.
Project Management, Senior Management, Property Owners, Financiers, and Donors all benefit greatly from
photo-documentation. Senior management in particular has much to gain by using the photo-document in direct
support of their projects.
By putting your photographs on-line, senior management can view progress and specific details each week. There are a few companies out there
selling the jobsite video cameras but these are only viewing the progress from fixed points. Photo-documentation is an active and dynamic process
that puts a live person on-site reviewing progress and taking instructions from project and senior management. There is no better way to get a visual
of each and every project you company is working on without visiting the job sites every week.
How it works:

Your team in the field takes pictures and notes at least weekly and uploads them to an
Internet server or your company's server:

It's only when you need to use a photographs that you realize the importance of getting the
right photographs taken at the right times and being consistent. Senior and project management
needs to mandate this and ensure it's getting done, anything less and you will loose most of the
benefits of photo-documentation.

Management at all levels can now view the project photographs getting a good sense of
what is happening on every project.
You can compare the actual progress against the schedule.
As you review the photo-document each week compare it to the published schedule. Is the actual work progress
keeping up? It's easy to determine this, if plumbing rough-in is supposed to be completed in a particular area the
photos will show that progress or the lack of it. You'll also see conditions that arise which will impact the
schedule, especially in remodel construction. By consistently reviewing the photographs you can support decisions
to work extra hours or leverage sub-contractors to make up their time. Use the photographs to help get back on
schedule and / or communicate the issues to the property owners.
Management will be more informed and ready to support the team in the field.
When you view the project photo-document weekly you'll be much more familiar with each job site
and the issues they face. Project Managers and Senior Management cannot be regular visitors to every
project site but with proper photo-documentation they can.
Use your photographs for reports and presentations.
Everyone likes a good picture, there is no substitute to a visual representation of your work. Now imagine
using photographs of a current project in you next presentation instead of some photographs from a
project taken few years ago. As management you consistently review and use you photo-document you'll
always be ready to use them for anything that you need or want.
Using your photo-document for marketing
Once you've taken so many photographs of each project the marketing uses are limitless. Better than a few progress and finished photos, your
photo-document has hundreds or even thousands of photographs to choose from. All different angles throughout all of the phases of work taken
throughout the entire project. Enough to meet you photographic needs for printed and website advertising. Use in presentations, posters, and billboards.
If you've taken your 'general' progress photos correctly you will be able to create a time-lapse of your project.

Your photographs can be used to show quality of work, safety measures, and good neighborly conduct. (Remember, your client has to live next to the
people you've affected during construction.) Show your next client how everyone on the project including them is kept informed and close to the
project through photo-documentation. Tell them that they will receive a copy of the photo-document leaving them with a complete photographic record
of their finished building. Let them know that they will receive a "visual as-built" photo-document for their building maintenance crew.
This is the basis for the "WE PHOTO-DOCUMENT" program.

A very simple and basic marketing tool, this flier is designed to show your potential client that you will provide full
photo-documentation on their project. You will:

Take regular progress photographs and notes.
Share them on-line or provided on a CD-ROM or other media.
Provide a "visual as-built" as part of the project documents.
Not restrict copyrights for their own uses.
Will protect their personal or business information in the public use of the project photographs for your marketing
uses.

This flier is just my example of what it should look like, use it to develop a program that works for your company.
